MEWP Training Course Description:
Energy Safety Canada (ESC) Mobile Elevating Work Platforms course has been designed to offer basic operator training for people working with Type 3, Group B Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).
During this course, participants will learn the fundamentals of evaluating the scope of a job as well as understanding the requirements and hazards associated with the workplace. There will be hands-on training activities that include hazard assessment, inspection of pre-use equipment, and the basic operation of a MEWP.
The basics course may be used as a worker’s competency assessment that the employer has already designated the worker as a “competent person” based on specific tasks assigned.
What are the prerequisites for the Mobile Elevating Work Platforms course?
Participants must have a valid OSSA or ESC Fall Protection Certificate.

- How to manage hazards
- Effective rescue planning
- The capabilities of mobile elevating work platforms
- Selecting a MEWP
- Pre-operation inspections
- Proper operation and stowing procedures
Evaluation:
After successfully completing the course, which includes an examination portion, participants will receive a certificate of completion that will certify them for three years.
